..because old tapas bars are fun and new ones are getting groovy..

La Fabrica Moritz - The Moritz Beer Factory was founded in 1856 by Louis Moritz who had come to Barcelona from Alscace. In December 2011, after 7 years of renovations (it is Spain after all and nothing happens quickly!) and €30 million, it reopened as a funky new site, incorporating different restaurants and bars and event spaces.

...because sometimes it is an advantage not to speak Catalan...

...because I can live in blissful ignorance not knowing if they are warning me to take care crossing the road (because 1 in every 3 road accidents involves a pedestrian)... or to pay attention and have a nice day in Barcelona! I choose the second (whilst paying attention when crossing the road!)

...and always accompanied by sangria...

..some of the best...

...more secret ingredients (I am certain one of them is Cointreau!). And the best ones are deceptively stronger than their fruity, refreshing flavour!

...because of the 'pimientos de padron'...my obsession...

...and my endless search in tapas bars to find the best ones in town.

(I did try it at home but just couldn't get it right...there is a secret!)
Now being served at every good tapas bar in town!

...because not only do they have Christmas.... and New Year....

... on the 6th January they have Los Reyes...
A festival celebrating the arrival of the Three Wise Men (Balthazar, Melchor and Gaspar) bringing their gifts to the 'New King'.

In Barcelona this day is bigger than Christmas. It is the day of gifts. More food. and the Roscon, the pastry cake filled with custard...

...and King, which if you get in your slice means you can be King for a day! However, if you get the bean, you pay for the cake $.

...because it is all about the food....

...so much so that they put super sized statues on Rambla de Cataluña...

..of the local Catalan pasta (los galets).
Food is everything here and yet, surprisingly, there aren't many overweight people.. but I think that is because they only eat 2.5 meals in a 15 hour day.  Most of the time one is hungry, especially when waiting to eat dinner at 10pm, maybe that is where the obsession with food comes from? Hunger...??
