...because I learn something new everyday...

Last night I learnt that the fish 'Dorada' (meaning 'golden' - Gilt Head fish in english)is so called because of it's golden crown!

And more on the uber cool place where I learnt this soon...

...because of the most exquisite jewellery shop in the world...

Tucked away, just near the Cathedral, is one of my favourite jewellery shops in the whole world (and that is a big call!).  I would like one of almost everything- except the cockroach necklace!  However, I can't afford one of anything but as a compromise, the owners have said that I am allowed to stay there overnight and play, as long as I leave everything how I found it. They probably shouldn't have said that...

...is it just me...

...or is there something going on here?!...

I love this statue! It makes me smile everytime I walk past it.  And it is right in the centre of the city ironically, located right next to the main cathedral.

...because for 4 days there is a modern city of Babylon...

...and it is called the GSMA Mobile World Conference. Last week it was here, 60000 people from around the world come to learn, share, buy and sell mobile stuff.  Walking around it and hearing so many languages was like being in a modern city of Babylon -interpretation assisted by wifi and mobile phones!
And this - a very cool music making machine!

...because of the Santa Maria del Mar...

I am not religious but sometimes I like to come and sit in here.  There is a sense of peace and serenity within the walls of this cathedral and  I think that is because it was built by the people of the sea (1329-1383) as a church for the people.  It is dedicated to Maria, who stands with Jesus watching over a boat.  Tucked in amongst narrow streets, it is imposing from the exterior but inside there is a breathtaking feeling of light and space.  It a sanctuary of calm from the chaos outside.
