..because now I know how to make fideua....

...my first homemade fideua (rice noodles with seafood) -  a lesson in the secrets of spanish cooking (from a Spaniard)... with a delicious result!  The added bonus being it could be eaten in the Winter sun and with a breathtaking view of Barcelona.
Next stop: paella!

...because of the little villages, almost at the end of the world....

...actually, just at the end of the Val D'Aran and Spain.
Bausen and Canejan, are situated up the steep slopes of the Val D'Aran and less than 2 km from the border with France.  These old, remote villages have a long and fascinating history. And while they appear uninhabited because of the lack of people, they aren't (apparently!).

...because of the only bit of green in the city in January...

...are the bright Clementine Orange trees.
In the city of Winter grey, where all the trees have lost their leaves, the Clementines are the only bit of colour!

..because not far is historic and picturesque Girona...

..historic Girona, 1 hour north of Barcelona, is a beautiful and very picturesque old town.  It displays its preserved and rich history from the time of the Romans, through the Visigoths, the Moors, the Jews to the present Castillians. From the gardens surrounding the ancient roman wall, the medieval stone buildings and the grand cathedral, it all makes for a very enchanting visit.
