...because of Cala de Vermut.......

...a new discovery but an old and enchanting gem. This little friendly, family run tapas and vermut bar is located close to the busy centre but yet tucked away in a quiet side street nearby. It has vermut on tap, a delicious selection of fresh tapas and some charming Costa Brava wall murals which all make for a unique and recomendable tapas experience.

...because of my new local, Casa Lolea...

...the vermuteria, cafe and tapas bar is located in Sant Pere Més Alt, by the quaint little Passatge Sert. Open all day, this pretty and chic place is a highlight on the street; serving vermut, wine, their artisinal sangría and tapas all day. (Even better, is that it is close to me and my new favourite place to go.)

... because a winter Sunday is vermut time...

...my new project- a tour of vermut bars.  Senyor Vermut, a bustling bar, bursting at 12h on a Sunday because not only the vermut is good but so are the  patatas bravas and  croquetas.

...because of the oldest cafe in Eixample....

...Cafe del Centre is the oldest remaining cafe in Eixample , 1873.
Eixample was constructed from 1860 when the Medieval walls encircling the old town were pulled down to allow for the expansion (eixample  Catalan  and ensanche in Castellano)of Barcelona.
To enter Café del Centre is to step back into another era (modernista) and you can feel and see the history.  It continues to be somewhere to catch up for a coffee or a wine, to read one of their books or to listen to someone play the piano... or even write a blog!

...because of the vermut aperitivo at Bar Electricitat...

... tucked in on the market square in Barceloneta, is this vintage vermut bar, open 09h-15.30h (& 19h-22h).  On a Saturday or Sunday it is filled with the locals who come to have their morning vermut (of which there is a selection) and soda, accompanied by tapas... mejillones (muscles), or bacalao or jamón or bombas (potato filled with meat then fried). A delicious way to start Spanish Sunday (after the gym, of course!)
